Bio

screen-shot-2013-04-21-at-6-25-34-pm1I am a senior at the University of Oregon in the School of Journalism and Communication with a major in public relations. I will be graduating in June 2014 and will begin exploring the world of public relations directly after.

I hope to eventually delve into the realm of corporate PR but plan on honing my skills at a public relations agency first to gain a broader understanding of the field. I have held four internships thus far in my academic career (two currently); I learned an extensive amount from each, and they all have furthered my interest in public relations. During the summer of 2012 I completed an internship with Bridge Communications, which at the time was an up-and-coming public relations firm just getting on its feet. It was incredibly interesting and rewarding to watch a company grow, and I learned a lot about dedication and perseverance from my boss while developing my written and verbal communication skills. For the first two terms of my junior year, I worked as a corporate trade partner for a local dance organization called Ballet Fantastique. I fostered professional relationships with partners and donors and I promoted the organization and its performances.

I am currently a public relations intern for the University of Oregon Office of Strategic Communications as well as a communications associate for the University of Oregon School of Law Communications Office for the academic year 2013-2014. Both internships are writing based; I write press releases, features, profiles, news related updates and other general copy. I also contribute to the UO faculty website AroundTheO and the AroundTheO Twitter account via HootSuite. I regularly correspond with faculty members for both internships, facilitating positive relationships on behalf of the university.

From a young age, I have been a frequent reader and writer, which have no doubt sparked my interest for public relations. Looking back, I am grateful to have had such an avid interest in the written word. However, at the time, my mother might not have been so pleased with my obsession with reading because she could barely get me to go to sleep or come down for dinner if I hadn’t finished my book yet. I also enjoy listening to music, experiencing nature, and cooking for myself and others.
